It's not only distasteful, but upsetting. When possible, I try to avoid frequenting places such as flea markets, farmer's markets, etc., where dogs are captive of some person either vying for attention or possibly has never outgrown the need for holding on to something for comfort. I also find the use of dogs in the LLBean catalogs annoying.
